The merger of the two industry powerhouses was great in 2010 but prior years did not prove to be so kind to either of the companies. Both had experienced significant losses due to the catastrophic conditions in the US from 2007-2009. One of the companies opted to slash their global workforce by 10% and the other was able to offset losses with a revenue rise in European sales.
